"If you’re only going to write when you’re inspired, you may be a fairly decent poet, but you will never be a novelist — because you’re going to have to make your word count today, and those words aren’t going to wait for you, whether you’re inspired or not. So you have to write when you’re not “inspired.” … And the weird thing is that six months later, or a year later, you’re going to look back and you’re not going to remember which scenes you wrote when you were inspired and which scenes you wrote because they had to be written."

Neil Gaiman on writing.

Also see similar sentiments about “inspiration” vs. work ethic from E. B. White, Chuck Close, Tchaikovsky, and Isabel Allende.

3D Printing means a kid without a hand can now have one. And when he needs a new one, he can just print it. This made me smile today.

TarenSK: Why Aaron died

Last week, I awoke to find Aaron with me. He was sitting next to my bed, grinning his cheekiest grin, holding my hand.

For a few minutes, I savored a sweet uncertainty: Were the last few weeks all a nightmare, and Aaron was still with me? Or was I awaking inside a dream state, and in the real…

"When we say that love is ineffable, as Beckett knew, what we mean is that, when we love, we don’t know what the hell we are doing. We can’t stop talking through it, trying to figure it out. We think we ought to be talking about everything, doing everything, doing anything — breaking into spontaneous rage, talking about suicide, playing games, complaining about our boots — instead of just loving. We wait and wait and wait. Inevitably, boredom creeps in, terror creeps in. When you give yourself completely to another, as Vladimir and Estragon have done with each other, and you say, “Don’t leave me, you’re my only hope,” every day is a little more and a little less frightening, every day is a little more and a little less suicidal, every day is a little more and a little less. You could, like Vladimir or Estragon, easily be talked into hanging yourself from a tree by the only one who could save you from it. We must escape. We cannot. We can’t go on. We do."

(Some will say this is not the time. I disagree. This is the time when every mixed emotion needs to find voice.)

Since his arrest in January, 2011, I have known more about the events that began this spiral than I have wanted to know. Aaron consulted me as a friend and lawyer. He…

coffee: Women in coffee

I’ve been meaning to write this for a while, and finally had the time to do it. It has been a discussion mainly lead by men: the few female voices I’ve heard think it’s a stupid discussion, because they don’t feel less fortunate being a woman. Neither do I. I’ll in fact get back to why I feel good…

I was serious when I tweeted the other day to hashtag yourself on LinkedIn, Twitter, etc. as #Female so we can more easily be found.
